The Gerald Rudolph Ford F-Series is a serial publication of trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford since the 1948 model class. Slotted above the Ford Ranger in the Ford truck model range, the F-Serial publication is marketed as a stray of full-sized pickup trucks.[1] Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Tiptop Obligation serial publication (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-tariff F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 material body cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6-8 commercial trucks. The most popular version of the example line is the F-150 getaway truck, currently in its 14th coevals. From 1953 to 1985, the entry-level F-series pickup arm was the ½ ton F-100.

The F-Serial trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations during their production outpouring. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Speculate" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the mock up credit line has been sold as a build-cabriolet truck and a venire vanguard (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has also served as the ground for multiple rumbling-kiwi-sized Gerald R. Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Dispatch/President Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands, as Mercury sold the model line as the Mercury M-Series in Canada from 1948 to 1968; Abraham Lincoln sold the F-Series during the 2000s as the Lincoln Blackwood and the afterward Lincoln Mark LT.

Since 1977, the F-Serial has remained the popular pickup line in the United States of America; information technology has been the highest-marketing vehicle general since 1981.[2] [3] The F-Series is the superfine-marketing fomite in Canada for over fifty years.[4] [5] [6] As of the 2022 model yr, the F-Serial generated $41 billion in yearbook revenue for Ford.[7] Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

First generation (1948–1952) [edit]

The first-generation F-Serial publication pickup (known as the Ford Bonus-Built) was introduced in 1948 as a replacement for the previous car-based pickup line introduced in 1942. The F-Series was oversubscribed in eight unlike weight ratings, with pickup, delivery truck, cab-over engine (COE), conventional truck, and educate-busbar chassis body styles.

Second generation (1953–1956) [edit]

For the 1953 model class, Ford introduced a indorsement generation of the F-Series trucks. Redoubled dimensions, landscaped engines, and an updated chassis were features of the second generation. In other exchange, the model language of the F-Serial publication was expanded to trinity Book of Numbers; this remains in use in the present day. The half-ton F-1 became the F-100 (partially influenced away the Northland American F-100 Super Sabre)[ citation needed ]; the F-2 and F-3 were combined into the 34 -ton F-250, piece the F-4 became the one-short ton F-350. Conventional F-Series trucks were F-500 to F-900; COE chassis were renamed C-Series trucks.

Spell the cabs, doors, radiator support, inner fenders, and hoods are the Same from 1953 to 1956 F-100 and F-250s (the fenders varied connected F-250, F-350, and F-500, and long boxes were merely easy on the F-250), in 1956, the cab underwent a major alteration. Centered around a wraparound windshield, the cabriolet was inclined new doors, a redesigned dashboard, and an (optional) wide rear window. In line with Ford cars, the 1956 F-Serial publication offered seat belts as an selection.

Third multiplication (1957–1960) [edit]

Introduced in 1957, the third-multiplication F-series was a significant modernisation and redesign. Front fenders became integrated into the body, and the new Styleside bed continued the smooth lines to the rear of the pickup.

The cab-over F-Series was discontinued, having been replaced by the tilt-taxicab C-Serial publication.

In 1959, Ford began in-house production of four-wheel motor pickups.

Fourth generation (1961–1966) [redact]

Ford introduced a dramatically new style of pickup in 1961 with the one-fourth-generation F-Series. Longer and lower than its predecessors, these trucks had increased dimensions and new-sprung locomotive and gearbox choices. Additionally, the 1961–1963 models offered an nonobligatory unibody design with the cab and bed integrated. The traditional separate cab/seam was offered concurrently. The unibody proved unpopular, and Ford discontinued the option after the 1963 manikin year.

In 1965, the F-Series was given a significant midcycle redesign. A completely recently political platform, including the "Twin I-Beam" front suspension, was introduced, and continued to be old until 1996 happening the F-150 and until 2022 along the F-250/350 4x2. Additionally, the Ranger identify made its first off appearance in 1965 happening a Henry Ford pickup; previously, the Ranger denoted a base model of the Edsel, but starting in 1965, it was used to denote a peaky-dismantle styling package for F-Series pickups.[8]

Fifth generation (1967–1972) [edit]

1972 F-250 camper extraordinary

Introduced in 1967, the fifth-generation F-series pickup was stacked on the same platform every bit the 1965 revision of the quarter genesis. Dimensions and atmospheric phenomenon tras were exaggerated, engine options were expanded, and plusher trim levels became in stock during the fifth generation's production run.

Suspension components from all 1969 F-Series models are completely interchangeable.

One-sixth multiplication (1973–1979) [edit]

The 6th-generation F-series was introduced in 1973. This version of the F-series continued to be reinforced happening the 1965 twenty-five percent-generation's revised platform, just with significant modernization and refinements, including front disk brakes, increased cabin dimensions, full double-wall bed construction, and increased use of galvanized brand.

The FE engine serial publication was discontinued in 1976 after a nearly 20-year play, replaced by the more modern 335 and 385 series engines.

In 1975, the F-150 was introduced in 'tween the F-100 and the F-250 to avoid foreordained emission ensure restrictions. For 1978, honorable headlights replaced the previous models' round ones on higher trim software system models, such as Lariat and Ranger, and in 1979 became standard equipment. As wel for 1978, the Ford Bronco was redesigned into a form of the F-series pickup; 1979 was the endmost year that the 460 engine was available in a half-ton truck.

Seventh generation (1980–1986) [edit]

The ordinal-generation F-Serial publication was introduced for 1980, marking the low gear ground-up redesign of the fashion mode line since 1965. Alongside an entirely-new chassis, the pickup trucks received a completely new body. Patc of import by straighter consistence lines, the aerodynamics of the out-of-door were optimized to improve fuel saving. Sharing their taxi structure with F-Series getaway trucks, spiritualist-duty trucks (F-600 through F-800) underwent their prototypal redesign since 1967.

The powertrain line of this generation underwent multiple revisions through its production. At its launch, the engine phone line was largely carried over from 1979. Piece the 7.5 L V8 was dropped totally, a 4.2 L V8 was introduced as the smallest V8 engine. For 1982, a 3.8 L V6 became the accepted locomotive engine for the F-100. For 1983, to better the fuel efficiency of the model stoc, the M-Series engines (the 5.8 L 351M and 6.6 L 400 V8s) were dropped; the latter was replaced past the return of the 7.5 L V8. In response to low demand and poor performance, the 4.2 L V8 and 3.8 L V6 were phased call at 1982 and 1983, severally. For the F-250 and F-350, a 6.9 L diesel V8 (sourced from a partnership with International Harvester) became an option for 1983. For 1984, an "H.O." variation of the 5.8 L V8 was introduced. The 5.0 L V8 was fitted with fuel injection as standard equipment for 1986, comely the starting time such engine in an Earth-market pickup truck. The 4.9 L was fuel injected on 1987 models.

Succeeding with the previous propagation, the SuperCab and foursome-door crew cab made their return in 1980 and 1982, severally. First, a dual-backside-wheel version of the F-350 was offered as a pickup truck.

For 1982, President For revised the badging of the sit line, replacement the "FORD" hood lettering with the Ford Blue Oval grille emblem, a design that remains in use happening all F-Series trucks today (except the Raptor). The same year, the Ranger trims was dropped; the name shifted to the Ford Ranger compact cartridge (replacing the Ford Courier). After 30 years as the smallest F-Serial motortruck, the F-100 was dropped after 1983, eliminating model overlap with the F-150 (and payload lap with the Ranger).

This propagation was the final translation of the F-Series to bid a three-rush, newspaper column-shifted manual transmission; information technology is also the moment-to-last vehicle sold in the Cohesive States with this configuration.

Eighth generation (1987–1991) [edit]

Ford F-150 (light-duty type)

The eighth-generation F-Series was introduced for 1987 as a major revise of the 1980–1986 generation. Patc the cab was carried all over, numerous body panels were revised, including a completely new strawma fascia; the upcountry also underwent a redesign. The long-range-running Flareside bed design was inactive, with all examples produced with Styleside beds.

Next the 1986 modulation of the 5.0 L V8 to fuel injection, the 4.9 L I6 followed wooing for 1987, with the 5.8 L and 7.5 L engines doing thusly for 1988; the F-Serial publication became the first American pickup hand truck example line sold without carbureted engines. The cookie-cutter year, the 6.9 L diesel V8 was inflated in size of it to 7.3 L. Following the discontinuance of the three-speed manual, a five-speed hand-operated became authoritative equipment (a four-speed remained a special-order option until 1989). For 1989, an E4OD four-speed automatic (overdrive version of the C6 heavy-responsibility three-stop number) was introduced.

Slotted betwixt the F-350 and F-600, the F-Super Duty was introduced in 1987; an root of the current F-450/F-550, the F-Super Obligation was designed exclusively for chassis cab applications.

Ninth generation (1992–1997) [edit]

1993 Ford F-150, with dual fuel tanks

The one-ninth-generation F-Series was introduced for 1992 atomic number 3 the indorsement redesign of the 1980 F-Series computer architecture. Adapting designing elements from the newly introduced Explorer and redesigned E-Serial publication and Ranger, the F-Series received a slightly lower hoodline, rounding the front fenders, bumper, and grille. Cooccurring with a redesign of the interior, the F-Series standard a driver-side airbag.

After a six-year hiatus, the FlareSide have it away made its return, becoming a submodel of the F-150. To appeal to younger buyers, the bodywork of the FlareSide bed was modernized, adapting the fenders of a dual rear-wheel F-350 to a single rear-wheel chassis. To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the first off Ford Madox Ford factory-produced motortruck (the 1917 Ford Model TT), Ford offered a 75th-anniversary bundle on its 1992 F-series, consisting of a stripe package, an argent-colored step bumper, and special 75th-anniversary logos. In response to the Chevrolet 454SS pickup, Ford introduced the SVT Lightning, hopped-up by a 240 hp 5.8 L V8.[ credit needed ]

For 1993, a turbocharger became available connected the 7.3L "IDI" Diesel. In the middle of the 1994 model year (referred to as "1994.5"), Supranational replaced the IDI with the new 7.3 L T444E turbo diesel engine, the first engine branded as a Fording PowerStroke. While sharing its predecessor's displacement, the engine was an entirely new design.

For the 1997 model year, the 9th generation was gradually phased prohibited of production; the F-150 was replaced aside the tenth part-genesis F-Serial (see below), with the F-250 (rebranded as the F-250 Heavy Obligation) and F-350 remaining in production. For 1999, the larger F-Serial trucks (and the F-Super Duty) were replaced by Ford Super Duty pickups.[ citation needed ]

Ordinal generation (1997–2004) [cut]

For the 1997 model year, Ford Hermann Hueffer made a substantial commute to the F-Serial publication range of trucks, cacophonous its pickup line into deuce vehicle families. From the 1970s to the 1990s, pickup trucks had transitioned in utilization. Aboard vehicles designed exclusively for work use, the market section saw a major increase in need for dual-purpose vehicles for both work and personal use, effectively serving As a second gear car. To further expand its growing market share, Ford sought-after to prepare vehicles for both types of buyers, repackaging the F-150 in a Thomas More synchronal design (as a larger interpretation of the Ranger) while retaining the heavier-responsibility F-250 and F-350 for customers concerned in a work-use vehicle.

The ten percent-generation F-Series was introduced in January 1996 as a 1997 model. Initially released only as the F-150, a high-GVWR F-250 was released in 1997. The model ancestry was marketed alongside its predecessor, pared down to the F-250HD and F-350; for 1999, these were replaced aside the Super Duty trucks.[ citation needed ]

In the most extensive redesign of the F-Series in 17 geezerhood, the chassis standard fully independent front suspension, ending the expend of Twin I-Beam figurehead axles. Sharing sole the transmissions with its predecessor, the 1997 F-150 acceptable a range of engines new to the F-Series, including a 4.2 L V6 and 4.6 L V8; a 5.4 L V8 was added during 1997. Introduced in the full-sized Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis/Townspeople Elevator car sedans, the Modular/Triton V8 was the first overhead-camshaft engine to represent installed in a full-sized pick-me-up truck.

Distinguished by its rounded exterior, the tenth generation was again offered in classical- and extended-cab (SuperCab) configurations. To improve rear-hind end access, a rear-hinged third door (curbside) was introduced for the SuperCab; following its popularity, the SuperCab received a quartern door for 1999. For 2001, the F-150 became the first " 12 -net ton" hand truck offered as a gang cab with whole-grape-sized doors; produced with a slightly truncated bottom, the F-150 SuperCrew shared the duration of a standard-bed SuperCab.[ citation needed ]

The SVT Lightning made its return for 1999, steam-powered aside a supercharged reading of the 5.4 L V8; over 28,000 were produced from 1999 to 2004. For 2002, Lincoln-Mercury introduced the Lincoln Blackwood, the first gear Lincoln pickup. Share-out the front bodywork of the Lincoln Navigator SUV and the indistinguishable cab and soma as the F-150 SuperCrew, the Blackwood was designed with a model-exclusive bed and was sold only in black. Repayable to really stony-broke gross sales, the model line was discontinued after 2002.[ citation needed ]

For 1999, Ford redesigned the F-250 and F-350, introducing them as the first generation of the Ford F-Series Super Duty model line. Patc remaining part of the F-Series, the Super Duty trucks were premeditated with a different chassis, powertrain, and body design, as they are developed for heavier-duty work use. For 2000, the Super Responsibility line was expanded to include the average-duty truck (F-650/F-750) serial, designed in a joint venture with Navistar International.[ citation required ]

Eleventh coevals (2004–2008) [edit]

For the 2004 model year, the F-150 was redesigned connected an all-rising political platform, which has a fully enclosed-in frame and introduced rear shocks to mount outer of the frame for decreased wheel hop and improved ride quality. This new body style unbroken the fully independent front suspension introduced in the last propagation, but added vacuum-driven front wheel hubs for the four-wheeled take (4WD) versions. The previous generation had regular connected front axles. The improvement saves fuel and by default goes into a wheel-locked pose. Should a failure occur in the vacuum cleaner solenoid, system, or hoses, the wheel hub defaults to a 4WD put to keep on from going a driver marooned. Internally, a tierce-valve variant of the 5.4 L V8 was introduced and replaced the previous 2-valve version. Externally, the 11th-generation model was variant from its predecessor, with sharpy-edged styling; a major shift was the adoption of the stepped driver's window from the Super Responsibility trucks. Irrespective of cab type, all F-150s were given quadruplet doors, with the rear doors on the regular cab providing memory access to behind-the-seat storage. Ford also introduced additional variants of the F-150. The FX4 Cross-country package available since the 2002 model class became its own trim level. A sportier version of the F-150 became available As STX, replaced by FX2 Sport in 2007.

From 2005 to 2008, President Lincoln-Mercury dealers sold this interpretation of the F-150 as the Lincoln Mark LT, replacing the Blackwood.[ citation needed ]

In tardily 2007 for the 2008 modelling yr, the Super Responsibility trucks were given an all-new program. Patc using the comparable bed and cabin as before, these are distinguished from their predecessors by an all-new interior and a much larger grille and head lamps. Antecedently available only as a chassis-cab model, the F-450 now was available as a pickup directly from Ford Madox Ford.[9]

Duodecimal generation (2009–2014) [edit]

The 12th-generation F-150 was introduced for the 2009 model year as an update of the Ford Madox Ford full-sized hand truck platform. Similar to its predecessor, these trucks are distinguished by their Super Duty-style grilles and brain lamps; criterion-cab models again have two doors as an alternative of four. The FlareSide have it off was continued until 2010, dropped along with the manual gearbox; alfresco of Mexico, the Lincoln Check off LT was replaced by the F-150 Platinum. A new theoretical account for 2010 included the SVT Raptorial bird, a holy off-road pickup.

In 2010, Ford shifted its electronics from a all-purpose electric faculty meanspirited to the computerized and programmable trunk control mental faculty, allowing for fewer parts differences and programmable upgrade options from the dealer or factory. In 2011, Ford reintroduced the 5.0 in the F=Series with its new 5.0 Coyote dual elevated Cam River TiVVT engine with 360 H.P..

Equally part of a leading focus on fuel economy, the entire locomotive lineup for the F-150 was updated for the 2011 model year. Along with the new V8 engine, the F-150 gained a new 3.7 L base V6 engine, and a powerful twin-turbocharged 3.5 L V6, dubbed EcoBoost away Ford. An automatic transmission became the only version. Other modifications include the addition of a Nexteer Automotive electric big businessman steering mechanism on most models.[ citation needed ]

A recent study conducted by iSeeCars.com and published on the Ford Motor Company site listed the Ford F-250 Super Duty As the longest-lasting fomite and Expedition, Explorer, and F-150 among the top-20 longest-lasting vehicles.[10]

Thirteenth generation (2015–2020) [edit out]

The 13th-generation Ford F-Series was introduced for the 2022 model year. Largely previewed by the Ford Book of maps concept vehicle at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, the new design noticeable several extensive changes to the F-Serial publication design. In the pastime of fire economy, Gerald R. Ford designers reduced curb weight of the F-150 by nearly 750 pounds, without physically altering its outdoor footmark. To leave such a massive weight reduction, most every personify panel was switched from brand to Al (with the exception of the firewall); the frame itself clay elated-force brand.[11] [12] To prove the durability of the aluminum-intensive design, during the development of the 13th-generation F-Serial publication, Ford Madox Ford entered unseeable prototypes into the Baja 1000 survival run (where the vehicles finished). The 2022 F-150 was the first pickup truck with adaptive cruise contain, which uses radiolocation sensors connected the front of the vehicle to maintain a set succeeding distance from the vehicle ahead of IT, decreasing speed if necessary.[ citation needed ]

The 3.7 L V6 was dropped, replaced by a 3.5 L V6 as the standard locomotive engine, with a 2.7 L EcoBoost V6 added alongside the 3.5 L EcoBoost V6. While the 6.2 L V8 was withdrawn, the 5.0 L V8 continued as an option, with a six-speed automatic as the sole transmission.[ credit needed ]

For the 2022 example year, the 3.5L EcoBoost 2nd gen was debuted on with the new 10-speed 10R80 infection. The 2.7 L EcoBoost and 5.0L Brush wolf remained the same and both continuing to be mated with the 6-speed 6R80 transmission.

For the 2022 model twelvemonth, the Ford F-150 underwent a midcycle redesign, organism revealed at the 2022 Newfangled House of York International Auto Show.[13] [14] [15] Following the introduction of the 2022 Super Duty model line, the F-Series (F-150 through F-550 and Ford Bird of prey) are again manufactured using a common taxi (for the first clock time since 1996). For 2022, the F-150 shifted from the provident-running three-bar design old on Ford trucks to the two-bar design that debuted on the 2022 Super Duty model line. The powertrain underwent respective revisions, as the 3.5 L V6 was replaced by a 3.3 L V6 mated to a 6-speed transmission.[16] The 2.7 L EcoBoost V6 locomotive engine and 5.0 L V8 engines were fitted with a 10-bucket along robotlike (from the Raptor) and quit-start capableness (previously only from the 2.7 L EcoBoost).[17] In 2022, a PowerStroke diesel motor was fitted to the F-150 first, as Ford introduced a 250 hp 440 pound-ft of torsion 3.0 L turbocharged V6 (from the "Leo" lineup of engines shared by PSA Peugeot CitroĂ«n and Jaguar Land Rover).[17] [18] [19]

Safety and driver-assistance features landscaped and added for the 2022 model class admit Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and Reconciling Sail Control with Stop and Go.[20]

The crew-taxi version of the 2022 F-150 reclaimed an IIHS Pinch Condom Cream rating.[21]

14th generation (2021–present) [edit]

The 14th-generation Ford F-Serial publication was introduced for the 2022 model twelvemonth through and through a live intro streamed over the Internet on June 25, 2022.[22] [23] Sharing a strong visual resemblance to the 13th generation, the 2022 F-150 underwent a redesign of 92% of its parts, carrying all over sole its cab and pickup corner structure.[24]

The powertrain business line is largely carried over from the previous generation, with a 3.3-liter V6, 2.7-l and 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6s, a 5.0-liter V8, and a 3.0-liter Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel V6.[25] Dubbed PowerBoost, an optional gasoline-electric loan-blend powertrain was introduced first in a Crossing light truck, pairing an electric motor with the 3.5-l V6.[25] The sextuplet-stop number automatic is dropped, with all engines paired to a 10-speed automatic.[24] [25] The 5.0-liter V8 receives a early cylinder deactivation system, named Variable Supplanting Engine technology, similar to GM's Active Fuel Management and Chrysler's Multi-Displacement System.[26]

On with outside design changes to enhance aerodynamics, many changes were successful to the inland, adding fold-flat front seats and large touchscreens (including a whole number instrument panel);[25] American Samoa an option, Surface-active Drive Assist was offered as a number one wood-assistance arrangement.

A new F-150 Bird of prey was declared in Jan 2022, and features a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine.[27]

A fully electric rendering of the F-150 was undraped on Crataegus oxycantha 19, 2022: the Ford F-150 Lightning (electric getaway).[25] [28]

Particular models [edit]

End-to-end its output, variants of the Ford F-Serial has been produced to attract buyers. Piece these variants primarily belong of passementerie packages, others are senior high-performance versions while other variants were designed with various means of rising functionality.

Unibody F-Series (1961–1962) [cut]

For 1961 into part of the 1963 model year, the Ford F-Series was offered with a thirdly body configuration, integrating the Styleside bed with the cab. With the pickup bed stampings welded at once to the cab before both assemblies were adorned to the frame, the design simplified the assembly and paint process (the shape was similar to that of the Crossing Ranchero). Following a poor market reception, the unibody pickup arm bed designing was withdrawn during the 1963 model year.

Specials (1962–1979) [edit]

From 1961 to 1979, Ford offered several Specific option packages for the F-Series, typically designed for owners with specified uses for their vehicles. For 1961, the Motor home Primary selection package was introduced; configured for owners of slide-in truck campers, the option software featured prewiring for the camper, heavy-duty transmission and engine cooling, and a larger alternator. For 1968, Ford introduced the Contractor's Special, and Farm out and Ranch Special, which featured toolboxes and heavier-duty suspension. The Explorer Special was introduced as a get down-priced variant of the Ranger trim. The Trailer Special was offered with trailer brake controller, industrial radiator, transmission cooler, and tow hitch.

In 1980, the Special selection packages were reserved as break u of the F-Serial redesign, piece a telephone number of features continued Eastern Samoa stand-alone options; the Explorer continued equally a variant of the Commando trim through the 1986 mannikin year.

F-150 Nite (1991–1992) [cut]

Sold from 1991 to 1992 on the Ford F-150 XLT Lasso, the Nite primary edition was an monochromatic option software, featuring nigrify paint and trim with a multicolor accent stripe. For 1991, it was exclusive to the regular-cab F-150; for 1992, IT was available connected totally bodystyles of the F-150 and introduced on the Gerald R. Ford Broncho.

The Nite edition was useable with two-wheel ram down or four-rack labor with either the 5.0L or 5.8L V8; it also included a sport abeyance and alloy wheels on 235/75R15 white-letter tires.

Eddie Bauer (1994–1996) [cut]

For 1994, Ford introduced the Eddie Bauer passementerie level for the F-150. In a fashion similar to the same tidy packages on the Aerostar, Bronco, and Explorer/Bronco Two, it consisted of outdoors-themed interior trim with deuce-tone exterior paint.

SVT Lightning [edit]

Second-generation Ford SVT Lightning

1993–1995 [blue-pencil]

Introduced as a 1993 model, the Ford SVT Lightning is a superior variant of the F-150 that was produced by the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT). Intended as a competitor for the Chevrolet 454SS, the SVT Lightning was derived from the F-150; to ameliorate its handling, extensive modifications were made to the front and can suspension and frame. Battery-powered by a 240 hp version of the 5.8L V8, the Lightning put-upon a heavy-duty 4-cannonball along automatic transmission from the F-350 (normally paired with the 7.5L V8 or 7.3L Rudolf Diesel V8). Piece slower in acceleration than the GMC Syclone, the Lightning retained nearly all of the towing and payload capacity of a standard Ford F-150. Produced from 1993 to 1995, the first-generation SVT Lightning was withdrawn as Ford readied the 1997 Fording F-150 for sale.

1999–2004 [redact]

After a three-year foramen, Ford released a second generation of the SVT Lightning for the 1999 model year. In line with its 1993–1995 predecessor, the endorse-coevals Lightning was supported on the F-150 with a list of suspension modifications; in a design change, all examples were produced with a FlareSide bed. In place of a model-unique engine, the second-generation was powered by a supercharged variation of the 5.4L V8 from the F-150, producing 360 horsepower (increased to 380 horsepower in 2001).[29] As before, the high-output engine was mated with a heavier-responsibility transmission from the F-350 pickup truck.

For the 2004 redesign of the Ford F-150, the SVT Lightning was not enclosed, departure 2004 as the final year for the model course. While of an entirely different design focus from the SVT Lightning, the SVT/Ford Raptor is the succeeding generation of shrill-performance Ford F-Series pickup trucks.

SVT/Ford Bird of prey (2010–2014; 2022–present) [edit out]

For 2010, Ford introduced its second high-carrying into action truck, the SVT Raptor. In contrast to the enhanced on-route performance of the SVT Lightning, the SVT Raptor is a focused towards cross-country use, in line thereupon of a Baja 1000 racing truck. Spell a road-legal fomite, many another design modifications of the Raptor were made to improve its off-road capacity, with the vehicle featuring a model-exclusive suspension with long-move springs and shocks. The Raptor shares only its cabriolet with a standard F-150; to accommodate its larger tires, the Raptor is fitted with wider movement fenders, hood, and pickup arm bed. Initially produced as a SuperCab, a Raptor SuperCrew was introduced previous in the 2010 model year. For the first time along a Ford fomite in North America since 1983, the word "Ford" was spelled across the grillwork of the SVT Raptor in place of the Ford Blue Ovate badge.

For 2010, the SVT Raptor was battery-powered by a 310 hp 5.4L V8; a 411 hp 6.2L V8 (from the F-150 Platinum and Super Duty trucks) became optional, replacement the 5.4L V8 for 2011. A six-pep pill automatic is the sole transmission paired with both engines.

After a two-year foramen, the endorsement-generation Ford Raptor (the SVT prefix was removed) was introduced for the 2022 model twelvemonth. Traced from the thirteenth-contemporaries F-Series, the Ford Raptor shifted to an aluminum body. Again produced A a superior off-moving vehicle, the Raptor is produced in SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations, with elongated-travelling suspension specific to the fomite. As a design theme, the second-generation Raptorial bird does not carry a Ford Blue-blooded Rounded grille badge, instead spelling stunned "Ford" across the grille.

To improve fuel economy and reduce weight, the 6.2L V8 was replaced by a 450 horsepower and 510 Ft-Lbs torque Falsetto Output 3.5L couple-turbocharged EcoBoost V6, paired with a 10-speed machinelike transmission.[31]

For 2022, Ford made upgrades to enhance the off-road capability of the Raptor series hand truck wrinkle. They introduced new FOX Live Valve Shocks. The new shocks auto adjust the suspension's concretion dampening supported connected the terrain via a live sensor electrically controlled solenoid valves. This new Terrain Direction System works with sensors in the body to adjust as the truck is driving. The new Trail control condition for 2022 as wel adds adaptative sail control for off-road use.[32]

Ford as wel added an elective Blue Idiom Parcel with Recaro front racing seating for the 2022 model yr.

F-150 Mogul Ranch (2001–present) [edit]

In 2001, Ford's marketing department leveraged a partnership with the 825,000-Akka King Ranch in south Texas, which is the largest ranch in both Texas and the United States and which operates a large fleet of Ford trucks. The motortruck was emblazoned with the King Ranch's Spouting W brand and upholstered in bicycle seat leather. IT was the industry's first wide-size up lightweight tone arm truck with a full rear passenger compartment and 4 plangent-size up doors, becoming the SuperCrew cab. On with the Limited and Platinum, the King Ranch continues to comprise the luxuriousness end of the F-150 spectrum. 40% of King Ranch F-150 gross sales are in Texas, Ford's largest pickup securities industry.[33]

F-150 Pt (2009–present) [edit]

Introduced for 2009, Platinum is a luxury-orienting snip of the Ford F-150. Effectively replacing the Lincoln Mark LT in the Merged States and Canada[34] (though its yield continued through 2014 in Mexico), the Platinum adoptive many of the opulence features and contentedness from the Mark LT with more subdued exterior styling (the Atomic number 78 was fitted with an eggcrate grille similar to early models of the Edsel Bryant Ford Expedition).

In 2013, Ford began use of the Platinum clean-cut for Topnotch Duty trucks, from the F-250 to the F-450 pickup trucks. Until 2022, the Atomic number 78 snip was an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder-along package to a Super Tariff that was coherent As a Lariat. 2022 saw the Platinum become a separate pare level.[ citation necessary ]

F-150 Tremor (2014) [edit]

For the 2014 modelling yr, Ford introduced the Tremor model of the F-150. The Tremor was released as a high-operation sport truck for street truck enthusiasts. The interior uses a console-decorated shifter, custom-built bucket seats and a catamenia-through center console not found in any other F-150. The Shudder is available in both 4x2 and 4x4. Both options feature an electronic lockup rear differential and customised abeyance. There were 2,230 Tremors well-stacked.[ citation needed ]

Ford Hermann Hueffer F-150 Lightning electric pickup [edit]

At the 2022 Detroit Auto Show in January 2022, Ford declared the intention to garden truck a fully-light bulb pickup. Prototype test mules on an active F-150 physique were tested during 2022, including a record-setting demonstration essa towage of 1,250,000 pounds (570,000 kg) connected rails.[35]

Ford unveiled the truck, named the F-150 Lightning, on May 19, 2022. It intends to get yield in the spring of 2022.[36] In May 2022, Ford named the new vehicle the F-150 Lightning.[37] Ford received 44,500 refundable-deposit orders in the first two days after the annunciation, and a further 25,000 in the incoming two days after that.[38] Starting price is $39,974 for the fleet version and median Price for an XLT model is $52,974, in some cases ahead tax incentives, which generally boil down about $10,000[ citation needed ] [ where? ] from the final price. This compares favourably with the previous internal combustion models, which cost about $13,000 more, out-the room access.[39] The F-150 Lightning likewise importantly proscribed-performs its internal burning predecessors... The low-end configuration has 426 hp, 240-mile range, and its littler batter allows a 2,000 lb. payload. The high-end conformation has 563 hp, 300+ mile capacity, 0-60 times in the mid-four-second range, and towing capability of 10,000 lbs. Both models have 775 pound.-foot. of torsion, full-time 4wd, fencesitter rear suspension, and currently come in a crowd-cab configuration only, with 5.5' turn in.[39] The active suspension provides real-sentence load weighing function. Ilk Tesla, the Gerald R. Ford F-150 Lightning has over-the-air out software updates, and a significant computer software driving AIDS which allow limited hands-off main road driving, but recede short of full self-impulsive.[39] The F-150 Lightning provides household-oriented V2G index, which can meet the physical phenomenon needs of a typical American home for triplet to ten days, and supply upward to 9.6 kW of top executive through football team 120V and 240V electrical outlets distributed around the truck.[40]

Every bit of May 27, 2022, Ford has begun discussing the other vehicles on the far side the F-serial publication, such as the Sashay and Navigator, which will personify underpinned by their life-size Electron volt truck frame, as well as the smaller chassis which will be in use for the Bronco, Explorer, and Aviator.[41]

Variants [edit]

Moderate-duty trucks [blue-pencil]

Untimely 1970s Ford F600/F700

For most of its production, the F-Series was sold in a medium-duty conventional truck configuration aboard the handed-down getaway trucks. Beginning in 1948 with the 1½ ton F-5 (future F-500), the medium-duty trucks ranged up to the F-8 (F-800). Prior to the 1957 introduction of the Ford C-Serial tilt-cab, the medium-responsibility range was offered equally some a conventional and in a COE (cabover) configuration.

Following the origination of the fifth-generation F-Serial in 1967, the medium-duty trucks were designed separately from the pickup motortruck range. Although remaining part of the F-Series straddle, the medium-tariff trucks shared only the cab and interior with the F-Series pickup trucks. Since 1967, the cab design has transformed only in 1980 and in 2000. Redesigned connected an all-new chassis, the 2022 F-Series medium-duty trucks retain an updated version of the 2000–2016 F-650/F750 taxi.

The culture medium-duty F-Series served as the donor program for the B-Serial publication cowled omnibus chassis produced from 1948 to 1998. Produced primarily for school bus topology bodies, the B-Series was discontinued atomic number 3 part of the sale of the Ford heavy-motortruck line to Freightliner in 1996.

Heavy-duty trucks [cut]

Above its cooked-duty hand truck ranges, the Ford F-Series was old as a heavy-truck chassis during its early production. In 1951, Ford debuted its "Big Job" line, denoting the F-8 conventional.[42] In 1958, the "First-rate Duty" and "Extra Heavy Duty" replaced the Big Job trucks, marking the launching of the Super Duty V8 engine line.[43] In 1963, the N-Series became the first short-cowling conventional built by Ford, replacing the F-900 Comprehensive Duty/Extra Heavy Duty. Although supported an all-new shape and separate bodywork, the cab was sourced from the F-Serial.

In 1970, Henry Ford II introduced the L-Series "Louisville" line of conventional trucks, hurtling all heavy truck development away from the F-Serial publication. The L-Serial/Aeromax would remain in production through 1998, as Ford exited the North American heavy-hand truck segment. Outside North America, Ford builds the Ford Cargo, and Ford F-MAX.

Vans [blue-pencil]

1956 Ford F-100 control panel van

From 1948 until 1960, the F-Series was produced in a panel van configuration; in contrast to Common Motors, Ford never offered a passenger "carryall" variance (competing against the Chevrolet/GMC Suburban or the Multinational Travelall). For 1961, the panel van was out of print, largely replaced by the Econoline compact van.[ quotation needed ]

From 1968 to the present day, the Econoline/Club Wagon/E-Series vans have shared a degree of mechanical commonality with the F-Series pick-me-up trucks (during the 1970s, some body components were shared). While no more produced for retail sales event, the E-Serial publication still shares its engines and transmission with the Ford Super Duty trucks.[ commendation needed ]

F-series Gruelling Obligation like F-250, F-350 are available in A-one Cab and Crew taxicab with long bed, merely the F-450 is getable only in a chassis version. The F-150 Raptor is available, too.

In Australia, Ford F-series trucks are imported and regenerate to decently-hand drive past several Australian importers, mostly by the Sir Rex Harrison Motoring Group, which as get the largest importer of F-Serial vehicles in the Southern Hemisphere.
